Branching Bluebell or Tadgell's Bluebell
Wahlenbergia multicaulis

The species name of Wahlenbergia multicaulis means many-stemmed; hence its common name of Branching Bluebell. It was originally observed growing within the Coastal Heathland near Bells but it's probable its distribution was once more widespread along the cliff top. It is a tiny, tufted multi-stemmed perennial herb growing from a thickened taproot.
Leaves vary between basal and upper parts with those at the base often hairy and arranged oppositely and becoming alternate and leafless in upper half of stem. Leaf shape varies being widest at the base (up to 6mm wide) and becoming progressively smaller and linear for upper leaves.
Flowers are a deep blue with a protruding white style at the centre.
